Brigg People's heartiest congratulations go to Jim Allcroft for being selected by our Town Council to receive the coveted Joseph J Magrath OBE Award for Public Voluntary Service.
-
Jim Allcroft - the very worthy winner of this important Brigg community award.
-
Brigg Children's Centre - the North Lincolnshire Council building which receives the civic award.
This is a very high accolade, the annual award being in memory of the former long-serving Town Clerk.
Jim, of Churchill Avenue, shows great dedication and commitment in serving the needs of the many senior citizens of the town, as well as those who are less able than others.
He is chairman of the North LinKs Seniors Forum – Ancholme Area Branch.
The Civic Award for the Brigg building considered to have best improved the appearance of the Town during the previous year goes to North Lincolnshire Council's Brigg Children's Centre, at the junction of Grammar School Road and Colton Street.
The award recognises significant improvement to a previously dilapidated, untidy and neglected location.
Just a few thoughts of my own...
Many people in Brigg know Jim and all the good work he does in so many areas, including campaigning for improvements to the railway station and its approaches.
He hasn't got what he wants, yet, in this regard. But there's no let up in his efforts in pressing the powers-that-be for action.
North Lincolnshire Council is also to be congratulated on its fine new building near the Youth Centre.
We seem to recall they didn't have an official opening (correct me if I'm wrong) Which is now all the more disappointing, as it's turned out to be an award-winning building.
Details of when both these coveted trophies are to be presented will be made known in due course.
