Today, I received a copy of North Lincolnshire's NewsDirect..... On page 7 there is a short article about Brigg's heritage centre. In concludes that the centre has local artefacts from the Roman, Anglo-Saxon and from the Ancient Greeks! When the dickens did the Ancient Greeks visit Brigg and district?  It also claims that the Bronze Age 'raft' (a sewn plank boat) was discovered in 1973.... No it wasn't, it...

The big, empty yellow 'Salt-Grit' box
Weather forecasts suggest that conditions could be Artic-like by early next week. Allegedly, NLC salt-boxes about the town have been charged, ready for folks to combat icy roads and footpaths......... But evidence indicates that in such icy and snowy condirions, any wise motorist should avoid getting trapped in the NLC's Angel car-park..........the big yellow 'Grit-Salt' box, apart from a squashed plastic bottle and a...

Following the proposal that the ornate meeting room above the Buttercross could be more readily accessed for public and community use with an installation of a lift.....there is some official concern being expressed that an access ramp, or raised pavement outside the side door (adjacent to the Hospice Shop), while offering better wheel-chair access, could pose a trip hazard to others walking along the side of the Buttercross. I...

Is it true that the officials who oversee the local polling stations during elections get £15+ an hour? I'm certainly not critising such officials, but surely the cost could be reduced. As hopefully a trust-worthy individual, like millions more, I'd be willing to undertake such duties for the minimum wage. There must be many groups, such as pensioners, the un, or under-employed who would welcome some additional income...
  • One Job for the Springtime.....

One job that needs a bit of elbow grease is the repainting of the clock tower on the Butterrcross. It's getting a bit worse for wear and the paint is peeling in the more exposed areas of the structure. I understand that there is no direct access to the roof from the Buttercross - so someone with a long ladder....or a very, very long paint-brush will be needed !

With the ever-increasing likelihood that the proposed new Tesco store on the extant Lidl's site will not go ahead.....is there a need for NLC to urgently review and amend the site's present retail designation to, for example, housing! Assuming that the site will be sold, Tesco will invariably include a clause that the site cannot be used for retail purposes that directly compete with that of the super-store emporium. Consequently, the...

According to a recent Scunny Telegraph article. Brigg TC are concerned. following a number of shop break-ins in Wrawby Street, that Brigg's CCTV cameras, on which nothing was recorded, could be in the wrong locations to catch miscreant acts. Okay, the camera near McColls has been missing for some time, but please don't delude ourselves - it's probably not the location, but the fact that cameras 'are not switched', 'have no recording...
